Chapter 1
Jonathan rubbed his eyes. They were getting dried out from the dull glow of the computer screen. He glanced at his alarm clock across the room. It was two in the morning. Jonathan sighed and brought his eyes back to his computer. Just a few more minutes, he thought. Clacking meet his ears and his hands went back to work. He was designing a new program. It was actually a word processor. Jonathan had no need of one, he just loved writing code. He’d written many programs, he was a bit of a legend in the shareware department. Of course, he told no one that he was only fifteen. People wouldn’t trust his programs if they knew that.
Suddenly, his computer screen went blank. Just like that. Jonathan stopped typing and stared. His computer had just crashed. Jonathan swore in frustration, he had just lost all his work. He never thought to save it until it was too late. Jonathan reached down and pressed the power button. Nothing. Awesome, he thought. It’s busted. Jonathan looked back at the clock. Five o’clock? He definitely hadn’t been on that long. He rubbed his eyes and looked again. Two thirty this time. Alright, he told himself, when your mind starts to play tricks, it’s time for bed.
Jonathan pulled the covers over himself. Tomorrow would be his sixteenth birthday and he was excited. It wasn’t just for the fact it was his birthday, but it was his sweet sixteenth. It was special. Jonathan smiled and rolled over, falling asleep instantly.

Jonathan groggily opened his eyes to a searing bright light. He instantly closed them again. The sun must be coming through my window, he thought. That happened, his window faced east. He opened his eyes again, this time more cautiously and was proven wrong. Through his squinted eyes he could see that his computer had somehow been turned on. The monitor was flooding the room with light. Jonathan stared in confusion. He got out of bed and walked over. As he did he heard rustling. He looked down in confusion, it was coming from his pants rubbing together. He usually slept in only he underwear, but it seemed he had been so tired that he had forgotten to take off his clothes. Jonathan ignored the realization and inched closer to his computer screen. Code quickly scrolled across the screen. Jonathan’s practised eye quickly scanned it. Although, his eyes might as well been unpractised, because the code seemed to make no sense. Jonathan stared at the screen. He reached down and tried to enter a few keystrokes, but nothing happened. Suddenly, a small shadow appeared. Jonathan leaned closer and squinted at it. The shadow grew bigger until it was the size of a small cell phone. Jonathan reached out to touch the screen. As soon as his fingers hit the glass, the screen gave off a sudden burst of light. Jonathan shielded his eyes with his hands.
When the light died down, Jonathan moved his hands. On his computer desk was a small flashing device. Jonathan reached over and picked it up and examined it. It was small and lightweight. It had only a few buttons and a minuscule screen, which was flashing. The device was also beeping with an annoyingly high pitch tone. Suddenly, Jonathan’s computer screen went dark, leaving only the device to light the room. Jonathan stood, mesmerized. He didn’t know what to do. His device’s beeping became faster, making his nervous. A burst of light filled the room.
Jonathan’s eyes flew open. He was lying on his back, staring at the sky. The sky? Jonathan lifted his head. Before him was a jungle, or kind of a jungle. It was filled with green plants and trees Jonathan had never seen before. Even the grass he was lying on seemed to have an odd feeling to it. Jonathan grunted and sat up. Panic had yet to make it’s way into his mind. Although Jonathan could feel it on the edge of his consciousness, threatening him. He took a breath, trying to relax. He must be dreaming, it was the only explanation. He obviously couldn’t just teleport into the amazon jungle, even if that were plausible, this didn’t seen to be the amazon jungle. Jonathan jumped as a sharp beeping met his ears. It was coming from his right hand, which was clenched in a fist. He quickly realized that he had the device it his hand. He unclenched his fist and brought it close to his face. The screen showed a red dot. When Jonathan turned the device, the red dot moved too. It was like a compass. Jonathan wondered what the red dot represented. He got to his feet.
Jonathan turned until the red dot was at the top part of the screen. He looked forward. There was a bush there, between two trees. When Jonathan took a step forward, a hissing sound came from the bush. Jonathan cautiously began back stepping. Anything that hissed was something Jonathan wanted to leave alone. Jonathan quickly turned began walking in the other direction.
After a while Jonathan stopped. He had seen nothing new, it was if everything kept repeating.
"This dream sucks," he said to himself. "It’s boring."
Jonathan jumped as the now familiar beeping began again. Jonathan pulled the device from his pocket were he had placed it. Again it showed a dot, it was behind him. Oh, no, he thought. Now something’s going to jump out and kill me. Why did I have to go and say that? Jonathan waited, but nothing happed. The red dot didn’t move. Jonathan turned around.
"Come out!" he yelled.
Jonathan instantly regretted it. Rustling came from the bushes beside him. He looked at the device, the red dot had moved to his left. At least whatever it was seemed to be small. Suddenly, something jumped out in front of him. Jonathan took a step back, stunned.
It was a cat, although that was a loose term. Was almost a cat, except that it had strange front paws. Also, it was completely black, except for some purple patches.
"What kind of Digimon are you?" the cat asked in an aggressive female voice, which seemed to be too mature for it.
Alright, it had just official exceeded the definition of "cat".
"I don’t even know what that is," Jonathan retorted. "And why should I answer you anyway? Why don’t you answer me first? Why are you following me?"
It’s amazing how brave you are when you think everything’s a dream.
The cat seemed to take on a passive attitude, walking slowly an eloquently around him on all fours.
"I find you curious," she said. "If you’re not a Digimon, then what are you?"
Jonathan was getting wary. Dream or not, caution was a good thing.
"....I’m a human, what are you? A Digimon?" Jonathan questioned.
The cat stopped walking and stopped in front of him.
"Yes, specifically I am BlackGatomon."
"Specifically, I’m Jonathan."
BlackGatomon gave Jonathan’s hand a funny look.
"What is in your hand?" she asked.
Jonathan didn’t want to tell her, of course, he didn’t really know anyway. So really he could tell the truth.
"I don’t know," Jonathan said.
BlackGatomon walked towards his hand. Jonathan began to get nervous. Suddenly, a bight light came from the device, it travelled in a beam and struck BlackGatomon. It didn’t knock her back or seem to hurt her. Even she seemed confused. She glared at Jonathan.
"What did it just do?" BlackGatomon asked.
Jonathan stared at her.
"What did you do to me!?" she repeated showing her teeth.
Jonathan back away nervously.
Suddenly, there was a loud crash. BlackGatomon and Jonathan both turned towards the sound. A creature burst from the woods. It looked like some sort of dinosaur, or kind or like a rhinoceros.
"It’s Tyrannomon!" BlackGatomon yelled.
She turned and seemed about to run away, when she suddenly looked back at Jonathan. Tyrannomon let out a earth-shattering roar and stared at Jonathan. BlackGatomon shook her head and turned away. She only took one step before turning around again. She seemed to be going through some sort of inner struggle. Tyrannomon began charging towards Jonathan. Jonathan nervously pointed the device at it. He hoped somehow it would protect him. Jonathan was sure his dream was about to end when suddenly he heard:
"Cat’s Eye!"
Suddenly, the Tyrannomon stopped in it’s tracks as if paralysed. BlackGatomon jumped towards it in a leap that defied her size.
"Lightning Paw!"
Tyrannomon was blown of its feet from the force of the blow. It was almost comical. Jonathan may have laughed had not his ‘dream’ life been in danger. Tyrannomon stared to get up when he was hit by BlackGatomon again. Once anew he was blown down. He seemed to try to get up but couldn’t.
"Thanks..." Jonathan began, but was interrupted.
"Lightning Kick!"
BlackGatomon kicked Tyrannomon a few feet into the air. When he landed he made no movement whatsoever.
"I think it has had enough, it’s not going to bother us anymore...," Jonathan said.
"Lightning Kick!"
This time when BlackGatomon struck it didn’t move, instead it disintegrated into small bits which quickly disappeared.
Jonathan stared.
"You... killed it," He said, shocked.
BlackGatomon turned towards him.
"So?" she said innocently.
"You didn’t have to!"
BlackGatomon paused.
"So?"
Jonathan stared at her, in disbelief.
BlackGatomon seemed to grow uncomfortable under his gaze.
"It was... interesting to meet you," she said, a confused look on her face.
She quickly turned and ran away, stopping only once to glance back, again a look of confusion on her face.
This place is weird, Jonathan thought. My imagination is messed.
